Vintage Football Shirt Care
Vintage Football Shirt Care – Football Legends Kits
To properly care for a second-hand football shirt — especially vintage or collectible pieces — it is essential to follow specific washing, storage, and maintenance practices to preserve the delicate fabrics, prints, and labels. We cannot be held responsible for any damage caused when washing if these guidelines are not followed.
Washing
- Hand wash is preferable, using cold water (maximum 30°C).
- If using a washing machine, select the gentle cycle and always turn the shirt inside out to protect prints, flocking, and badges.
- Use a mild detergent free from bleach and fabric softeners to prevent damage to fibres and prints.
- For strong odours, soak the shirt for a few minutes in cold water with a neutral vinegar solution before washing.
- Never wring the shirt; instead, gently press out excess water between two towels.
- Always dry in the shade, avoiding direct sunlight to preserve the colours and fabric.
Storage
- Store shirts in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated space, away from humidity.
- Avoid folding over prints or numbers to prevent cracking; hang on wide hangers or roll gently.
- Never use sealed plastic bags — the fabric needs to breathe to prevent mildew.
- If possible, air out the shirts regularly in the shade to remove any lingering odours.
Daily Care
- Keep shirts away from intense heat sources and harsh chemicals such as deodorants or perfumes applied directly to the fabric.
- Regularly inspect seams and fabric condition, adjusting care methods if wear, pilling, or fading are detected.
Following these simple care steps will ensure your vintage football shirts and jackets retain their value, appearance, and heritage for much longer.
